Measure from the outside of the thumb to the outside of the fifth finger.

To determine which model flute (standard or small-handed):

Stretch your fingers out as far as is comfortable.
Measure the distance between thumb and fifth finger (as shown).
If this distance is less than 7.5 inches (19cm), a small-handed flute is recommended.
